I had an early breakfast today with my long time friend, Craig. We live two miles from each other, but due to living so close, the Universal Law of Proximity prevents us from seeing each other frequently.
Craig told me about a night course at college he was taking for MS Office and Excel. He is learning what the rest of us have to discover by accident or from help by others about both programs. The conversation led to writing and capturing ideas and thoughts that materialize in the shower or while mowing the grass and then slowly vaporize to be lost in the wind before recorded on paper or electronically.
Craig tried carrying a note pad and pen with him but fell out of the habit. I encouraged him to try a blog as a way of keeping his interest in writing alive and saving those gem ideas for future development.
This process has worked well for me. If I can capture the essence of an idea on this blog, there is always time to develop the thought more completely or ditch it later.
The trick is getting the idea tied down before it floats away on the thought river to be roped in by the next person on the river bank.
